Culture above the water, reefs below it

Buton pairs village visits with quiet Coral Triangle reefs. Most trips combine both.

Two reasons to go

Village visits are arranged with the Kaimbulawa and led by local guides, who explain the island’s history, social structure and customs as you go.

Under water, Buton’s reefs are healthy and uncrowded. Dives are run with experienced local operators who know the sites, for first-timers and seasoned divers alike.

Good to know

Stays

Modest guesthouses and small resorts that support the local economy. Fewer amenities than Bali; that is part of the charm.

Rainy days

Craft workshops, storytelling or a cooking class, usually arranged through your guesthouse.

Village visits

Always with a local guide. Dress modestly, ask before photographs and let your guide help with a small gift for the community.
